Shalom
For 11 years, the dream of this festival has been to share with our neighbors a broad spectrum of movies that celebrate the diversity of the Jewish experience. Short films, dramas, comedies and documentary gems from all over the world bring us stories that remind us of our shared humanity. More than great films, our festival brings you intimate filmmaker conversations and lively discussions with community partners. We want you to be a part of the conversation, so be sure to participate in the Kibbitz Room, where you can chat with each other about the movies and your experiences.
FROM THE PRESIDENT OF JCC-FEDERATION OF SLO
Hello Film Lovers of San Luis Obispo and the World,
I am delighted and very proud to welcome you to our beloved San Luis Obispo Jewish Film Festival, returning in 2021 for an extended run beginning January 7. This year's theme is diversity and harmony, and the movies were curated for their uplifting and unifying messages.
Like all the other festivals, concert venues, and theatrical productions, we have had to adapt to the current pandemic and find a new, expanded approach. Fortunately, we have the creative team of Muara Johnston and Lauren Bandari skillfully leading our dedicated volunteer committee. I believe this year, we have succeeded by offering more films, available at more times and, because it’s virtual, it’s open to many more fans of world cinema.
We are also offering some drive-in movies, weather permitting, in December and January. We successfully hosted a drive-in screening of "Young Frankenstein" on Halloween night to an enthusiastic audience. We are thrilled to have this option to keep our community connected to one another in a healthy, safe way.
Most importantly, the festival will carry on with the same SLO community spirit it always has, bringing us together in a unique and special way. So grab a bowl of popcorn, settle into your favorite chair and get ready to watch some great movies.
Thank you for joining us,
Gail Schwartz, President, JCC-Federation of San Luis Obispo
